On a visit to St Anne’s RC Primary School, Assembly Member Lesley Griffiths set the benchmark for Welsh Assembly Members in the ‘skip2Bfit challenge’.
This was skip2Bfit’s first visit to North Wales, and Lesley is the first Assembly Member to have a go, setting the benchmark to beat for Assembly Members at 124 skips in 2 minutes. Lesley also stayed to award certificates to the highest scoring skippers in each year group and referee a faceoff between the schools pupils’ best skipper and the highest scoring staff member.
Children were also presented with a pot of blueberries each, and challenged to eat one piece of fruit every day for the whole of next week.
Commenting on the visit, Lesley said:
"I was far from the highest scorer on the day, however I have promised John I will practise and try to improve my score – just as I’m sure the children will."
"Skip2Bfit is a great initiative. Promoting exercise and healthy living from an early age has never been more important. This is a simple way to get children exercising and competing against themselves, and John is clearly passionate about promoting this in schools.
"I am keen to get more Assembly Members to take the Skip2Bfit challenge - In truth beating my score won’t be an enormous challenge, but I’m happy to be able to claim the benchmark to beat is mine. I will look into be organising an event at the Assembly to see who can beat me.
"However for now I would like to thank the staff of St Anne’s for inviting me and wish John all the best with getting more children skipping in schools across Wales. "
